It’s sad that a lack of money from advertisers will accomplish what a lack of ethics among administrators could never do: shut down a free-thinking student media. Both cities and campuses without journalism coverage will surely become corrupt. Or should I say, MORE corrupt.

Wow Koretzky. Great work and very sobering.

Thank you as well for a terrific example of an “alternative story form.” Your presentation was so much more effective than any 500-word story could have hoped to have been.

I’ve got a really good, new ad manager who’s managed to increase our sales, but we still don’t match pre-crash days and it’s only a matter of time…I really look forward to hearing more about Paper Money and what it does… Cynthia Cynthia

So thelargestcollegenewspaperintheuniverse is no longer the largest? How will you cope? What will you tell upcoming generations of UP staffs? You have been saying this for so long I bet you can’t even guess who this is or how long ago I was there. A clue: You didn’t have a monocle yet.

Survival of our journalism needs to be top priority for students and advisers alike, and the financial threat is very real. Clearly, we need to be where the innovation happens, because we can’t look to a successful formula in the industry to copy. But that’s what we do. So we need to innovate, be exceptional in our content, roll out new products and special sections tightly tailored to the communities our publications serve, try new things to boost our pick-up rates legitimately (try new approaches fast and either succeed, adapt or fail and move on), and be ever more creative, focused and energetic in our sales and marketing. By coaching our students to navigate through this uncertainty, to adapt as circumstances change, to try to steer the future rather than letting the future steer them, and to find solutions big and small, we will serve those students well.
